The Lord Made This Day for Us. It Doesn’t Suck.
Today’s Advent Bible Verse:
Psalm 118:24 ESV
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
As I write this, our collective Wednesdays are looking a little challenging. The weather will be bad all day, and if you live or travel through Lodi, NJ, you’ll probably face some flooding. I’m going off for more cancer tests, so that doesn’t make me happy. Every test I take, I fear that this is the end. I shouldn’t think that way, but I do. So today’s devotional thought centers on one of the most blessed and well-known bible verses - Psalm 118:24.
This verse from Psalm 118 is a wonderful reminder that each day is a gift from God. No matter our challenges or difficulties, we can always find joy that God is with us. During Advent, we are reminded that God is especially with us. He sent his Son, Jesus, to be our Savior. Jesus came to earth to bring us hope, peace, joy, and love.
As we prepare for Christmas, let us reflect on the many ways God has blessed us. Remember that God is always with us, even amid our trials. We can find joy in knowing that God is in control and has a plan for our lives.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Dear God, thank You for the gift of each new day. Please help us to find joy in your presence, even during our challenges. We look forward to the day when You will come again in glory. In the meantime, please help us to live each day to the fullest, knowing that You are always with us. We pray through Your blessed Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
