The Lord is My Life and My Salvation
Today’s Advent Bible Verse:
Psalm 130:5 ESV
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
As we talk about during this church season, Advent is a season of waiting and hope, a time when we prepare our hearts to celebrate the coming of Christ, the Light of the world. Psalm 27:1 speaks directly to our confidence as we dwell in this light.
The psalmist declares, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” Light dispels darkness, just as the birth of Jesus pierced the gloom of sin and death. In Him, we find clarity, direction, and peace. This truth holds steady, even in the darkest moments of life, when fear threatens to overwhelm.
“The Lord is the stronghold of my life.” A stronghold is a fortress, a place of refuge and safety. Think about the blessed hymn “A Mighty Fortress” and the words we sing that speak to Jesus as our fortress of protection. Through Christ, God has secured us in His unshakable love. Advent reminds us that the One who came as a vulnerable baby is also the victorious King who reigns over all. Because of this, we can say with confidence: “Whom shall I fear?”
Advent invites us to wait confidently, knowing that Jesus, our Light and Salvation, has come and will come again. In this waiting, we are called to live as people of hope, trusting in His promises and shining His light to a world in need.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Lord Jesus, You are my Light and my Salvation. In this season of Advent, help me rest in Your presence and trust in Your promises. When fear creeps into my heart, remind me that You are my stronghold, my refuge, and my strength. May Your light shine through me so that others may see Your glory and find hope in You. In Your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
