Christ’s Righteousness Brings Us Peace
Today’s Advent Bible Verses:
Isaiah 32:17 ESV
And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.
You are probably tired of me writing this, but Advent is a season of preparation, anticipation, and hope. As we prepare to celebrate Jesus' coming, Isaiah’s words remind us of the peace that flows from righteousness—a peace that surpasses all human understanding. This righteousness is not our own but the perfect righteousness of Christ, freely given to us through faith. Being reconciled to God in Jesus gives us a peace that restores and transforms us.
This peace is not a temporary relief or escape from life’s difficulties but a deep and enduring quietness of the soul. Even as the world around us feels chaotic or uncertain, Christ’s righteousness grants us confidence and trust in God’s faithfulness. When we lean on His promises, we experience a calm assurance rooted not in our circumstances but in His unchanging love and victory over sin and death.
During Advent, we are invited to pause and reflect on the significance of this peace. Christ’s first coming brought salvation, and His second coming will bring complete restoration. Until then, we live in the quiet hope of His presence with us, trusting that His righteousness will sustain us through every trial. Let the peace of Christ reign in your heart this season as you prepare to welcome Him anew.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Heavenly Father, You are the giver of perfect peace. Thank You for sending Jesus, whose righteousness covers my sins and reconciles me to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
