Done in Love

Today’s Bible Verse:
1 Corinthians 16:14
ESV

Let all that you do be done in love.

Yesterday, I talked extensively with a Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center nurse about memorizing Holy Scripture. While many longtime Christians have favorite Bible verses, most of us do not have the time to learn many. The nurse said that one of the problems she has is that Bible verses are too long. So, starting today, we will look at some of the shorter Bible verses, focus on their powerful importance to our lives, and maybe take time to memorize them.

The Apostle Paul encapsulates the essence of the Christian life in this verse from his first letter to the church in Corinth. Love is not just a feeling but a guiding principle that should permeate every action we take. As Lutherans, we understand that our ability to love stems from the love God has shown us through Jesus Christ. This love compels us to reflect His character in our daily lives.

This call to love challenges us to rise above our circumstances in a world filled with division and strife. It encourages us to consider how our actions impact others. When we approach our tasks—at work, home, or in our community—with love, we create a ripple effect that can transform hearts and lives.

Consider how this verse applies to your life today. Are there areas where you struggle to act in love? Perhaps it’s dealing with complicated relationships or mundane routines that can feel draining. Remember that even small acts of kindness and compassion can be significant in love.

Prayers

Remember:

  1. Florida as they recover from Hurricane Milton.

  2. The people of the southeast who are dealing with the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene.

  3. All people dealing with cancer

  4. Those who reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

A Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the unconditional love You have poured into my life through Christ. Help me to embody that love in all we do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
