What It Is Like When God is God

Today’s Bible Verse:
Isaiah 41:10
ESV

Fear not, for I am with you;
    be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Yesterday, I talked with a friend who spent the last two years in Australia for work. He and his family enjoyed the land of kangaroos and Foster’s beer but were more than happy to be back in the United States. The first thing they did after landing at JFK was find a New York City pizzeria.

As we talked, he told me he had gotten in touch with his faith in God in the land down under. He attended church TWICE a week, was a ministry leader, and learned to play contemporary Christian music on a guitar. I expressed my sincere happiness that he was now in a relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He said that his favorite verse was the one above from Isaiah 41:10. I thought I would briefly reflect on it today.

Life is filled with uncertainties and challenges that can easily trigger fear and anxiety. The world seems increasingly unstable, and personal struggles can leave us overwhelmed and alone (ask me about that one any time). During such turmoil, Isaiah offers a powerful message of comfort and reassurance from God.

This verse reminds us that we are never truly alone, even when we feel weak and afraid. God is with us and promises to be our strength and help. He will uphold us with His righteous right hand, guiding us through every storm and challenge.

The phrases “fear not” and “be not dismayed” in this verse emphasize the importance of trusting God’s presence and power. When we fix our eyes on Him, we can overcome our fears and find peace amid chaos.

PRAYERS

Keep in Your Prayers:

  1. All people dealing with cancer

  2. Those who reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

A Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, help me to trust in Your presence and power, even when I am afraid. Please fill me with Your peace and strengthen me to face every challenge. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
