Never Give Up Your Hope in Jesus

Today’s Bible Verse:
1 Peter 1:3-5
ESV

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

It’s been three days since the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Yesterday, I spent time listening to podcasts discussing the events of Saturday evening. I heard one person claim they’ve lost all hope in that the government can’t protect a former president from being killed by a terrorist. My first response: “Well, that’s extreme.”

I thought about what I had hope in. I believe my doctors will give me the best care. I believe that when I drive to church I won’t be crushed by someone ignoring a traffic signal. And I believe that when I pray, God hears and answers me. Of those three, my believe and hope in God is strong. I may be dealing with a health issue, but I believe my Lord Jesus died for my sins and hears my prayers as my intercessor and bring them to His Father. My hope in eternal life is not shaken because I’m sick; it is stronger! Our God has given me and you a hope that is beyond anything - a hope that one day, we will stand before Jesus on the new earth to celebrate the resurrection to eternal life. I even have hope that when we’re there, Jesus will have a huge smile on His face! We cannot lose hope in God even though we see bad things all around us or even when difficult challenges fall into our lives. Keep your hope in Jesus Christ because try God has done it all to save us!

PRAYERS

Keep in Your Prayers:

  1. President Donald Trump, the family of Corey Comperatore who are mourning his death, David Dutch and James Copenhaver who are recovering from the shooting on Saturday.

  2. For all across our country dealing with excessive heat.

  3. All people dealing with cancer

  4. Those who reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

A Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the living hope I have in Your Son, my Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for the eternal inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. Strengthen my faith and that of all believers by shielding us from the actions of the evil one. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
