The One and Only God
Today’s Bible Verse:
Isaiah 44:6 ESV
Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel
and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
“I am the first and I am the last;
besides me there is no god.”
Next weekend in church, we will begin a three week look on the Apostles’ Creed as found in Luther’s Small Catechism. Each day this week we will take time to reflect upon the biblical foundation of this blessed Creed.
When Christians confess God, they proclaim that they believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, known as the Triune God. We confess three persons in the Godhead: God the Father created; God the Son, Jesus Christ, redeemed; and God the Holy Spirit sanctifies and keeps us in the true faith. This is the only God we confess; any Christian who tells you otherwise is not a Christian. Let this reaffirmation of our belief in the Triune God strengthen our faith.
God the Father called creation into being by speaking. “Let there be light.” He calmed creation and made this earth habitable for His people. God gave us everything to support our lives. As Christians, we know the love and grace of God as we see it through His Son, our Lord Jesus. Sending Him into this world to pay for our failures is the most profound evidence of His love for us. But the Holy Spirit is in and with us always, providing faith and understanding to guide our lives.
God loves what He created and graciously supports us. Give thanks to the Father today for all He’s done to make us His people forever!
PRAYERS
Keep in Your Prayers:
Everyone dealing with the clean up following Hurricane Beryl.
All people dealing with cancer
Those who reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
A Prayer for Today:
I thank You, Heavenly Father, for all that You’ve done to create and keep us as Your own. In Your Son’s name I pray. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
