Do We Hear What God is Saying to Us?
Today’s Bible Verse:
Deuteronomy 5:12 ESV
“‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.”
Today's Bible verse comes from the Old Testament reading for our weekend church services at Saint Matthew’s on Saturday at 5 p.m., Sunday at 9:30 a.m., and Sunday at Holy Trinity at 11:30 a.m. One of the important parts of being a Christian is being with God in His house regularly. In church, we receive the forgiveness of sins through the pastor speaking God’s grace and the Sacrament of the Altar, where we receive Jesus Himself in the Eucharist. But we also receive God’s Word as we hear it read, preached, and sung. For only an hour a week, we get to spend time with God and receive His blessings of forgiveness, grace, and love. It is only an hour, sometimes less, when the pastor isn’t too windy. Yet regardless of how long we spend with God, it is important that we do. Let us come together this Sunday and hear God’s Word, receive His forgiveness, and praise His name for all His blessings!
PRAYERS
Keep in Your Prayers:
Those struggling to make ends meet.
All people dealing with cancer
Those who reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
A Prayer for Today:
Heavenly Father, we thank You that we are like clay in Your hands. Continue by the working of Your Holy Spirit to shape and mold us, until that day we see Him face to face and You see the image of Your Son in us; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
