We’re Empowered This Lenten Weekend

Today’s Verse:
Micah 6:8
ESV

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

As we enter the first weekend of Lent 2025, Micah 6:8 reminds us of God’s clear and straightforward call to act justly, love kindness, and walk humbly with Him. In a world that often confuses success with self-promotion, power, or material wealth, this verse refocuses our hearts to what truly matters in God’s eyes.

Justice calls us to fairness, integrity, and compassion, treating others as those made in God’s image. Kindness is not just a passive feeling but an active love that reflects Christ’s mercy toward us. Walking humbly reminds us that our lives are not our own—we depend entirely on God’s grace, not our own efforts or righteousness.

As we go about our tasks this weekend, let’s pause to consider: Are we living in a way that reflects God’s justice? Are we showing kindness to those around us? Are we walking humbly, trusting God’s guidance rather than our own understanding?

Through Jesus, who embodied perfect justice, steadfast love, and humble obedience to the Father, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out these words—not to earn God’s favor, but as a response to the unmerited grace we have received.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that guides us. Help us to act justly, love kindness, and walk humbly with You. May our lives reflect the mercy and love of Christ, and may we serve others with the heart of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
