Seeking Hope and Joy in God
Today’s Verse:
Romans 15:13 NIV
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In this single verse, Saint Paul reminds us that our hope, joy, and peace do not come from within ourselves, but from the God of hope. In a world full of uncertainty and trials, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or discouraged. Yet, Paul points us to the truth: our God is the source of lasting hope.
Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are filled with joy and peace—not fleeting emotions, but deep, abiding gifts rooted in the gospel. These gifts come not because of what we do, but because of what Christ has done. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He has secured for us a living hope that can never fade.
The Holy Spirit, working through the Word and Sacraments, strengthens and sustains this hope within us. It is by the Spirit’s power that we not only cling to hope but abound in it. This hope overflows in our lives, influencing how we view our circumstances and how we share the love of Christ with others.
As you reflect on this verse today, consider where you may be seeking joy and peace apart from God. Bring those burdens to Him in prayer, trusting that the God of hope will fill you anew. May His Spirit empower you to live in the fullness of hope and to be a light to those around you.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Gracious God of hope, thank You for the joy and peace You give us in Christ. By the power of Your Spirit, help us to abound in hope, even in difficult times. Fill our hearts with faith and trust in Your promises, so that we may live as witnesses to Your love. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
