Eternal Life in Jesus is Ours

Today’s Verse:
Titus 3:5
ESV

He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.

How often do we feel the pull to prove ourselves worthy of God’s love? This verse is a comforting reminder that our salvation is not based on our works or efforts but entirely on God’s mercy. Through the waters of baptism, we are cleansed and renewed—not by what we have done, but by what Christ has done for us.

The “washing of regeneration” points us back to the promises of baptism, where God acts to bring new life to His children. The Holy Spirit renews us daily, helping us live out our faith with gratitude, humility, and love. This renewal is not a one-time event but an ongoing process of being shaped into Christ’s image.

Luther taught us to remember our baptism daily, reminding ourselves that we are forgiven, redeemed, and empowered by the Spirit to walk in newness of life. As we meditate on this truth, let us rest in God’s mercy, knowing He has done the saving work for us. Our call is to respond with faith and let our lives reflect His grace.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Gracious God, thank You for saving me by Your mercy, not by my works. Help me to trust in Your promises and live a life that reflects Your love and renewal. Renew me daily through Your Holy Spirit so that my faith in Christ shines brightly in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
