Our Church’s Food Pantry

Looking Forward

We give many names to everything around us and often forget, over time, the meanings behind them. Poverty, Neglect, Starvation, Need, Pain, Suffering, Hardship, Illness: These names we give to things that happen to other people. Things we ignore if not happening to ourselves.

But these are things we also allow to happen and persist to others in our communities through ignorance, blindness, and dead-spirited self-centeredness.

Fear not, we also have great power- the power to bring other names to those around us: Hope, Joy, Compassion, Understanding, Support, Comfort, Guidance, just to name a very few.

Join us in our quest, here at St. Matthew’s to bring this kind of Living Hope to our communities and those around us who have fallen on times of hardship. This pantry may be small, but to those it serves and hopes to serve, it can be a small beacon that where hope endures, this too can pass.

Erasing Hunger

A recent report reminded us all that even though our church is located in one of the affluent counties in America, nearly 9% of the population experience food insecurity.

According to Feeding America, that amounts to over 81,000 people here in Bergen County that worry about their next meal. And sadly, a large percentage of these people are children.

St. Matthew's is working within our New Milford community to help combat this growing problem.

Our food pantry is open to residents of New Milford.

Your help - whether it is donating an item or two on our weekly list or donating money or supermarket gift cards - goes a long what to helping reduce the fear many who are hungry feel everyday.

To donate items, please stop by church, or even better, drop it off during one of our worship serves throughout the week. On this page you will find our weekly list of items that are needed in our pantry. These are items that we use each month and go through pretty quickly.
